Robfest, Holidays and Rock’n’Roll

                 Riff Raff rock Robfest

Hi everyone.

It’s been a while since my last communication. So, what have I been up to ?

Robfest 2017 took place last Sunday.  This was the 12th annual acoustic extravaganza and once again the weather behaved for us – no rain !  Riff Raff provided the live music, aided and abetted by some guest artistes. Thanks to everyone who dropped in – it was good to see you !   On the subject of Riff Raff, we are in the process of recording another album.  A lot of material is being kicked around at the moment, with some tracks nearing completion while others are in the early stages of being written or recorded.  So, lots of work still to be done – Stay tuned viewers !

                   Rob rocks for Harvey

Saturday was busy too. I played at Harvey Ellison’s memorial gig at Harrow Borough FC in the evening. Harvey, sadly, died of cancer last year. He was involved in forming the ‘Power Of Soul’, was also involved with starting Jam Night in the late eighties and played saxophone in the Glitter Band in the 70s.

In the afternoon, I went to Loftus Road to see QPR take on Reading and was entertained by a winning QPR !  Rangers won 2-0 and really deserved to have won by more – not often I’ve said that in recent times !  The previous Saturday, I was at the Stan Bowles match. What a player he was. He, and the Rangers team of the seventies, was so great to watch, playing exciting, open, attacking football – very entertaining.  It was good to see Stan The Man again but it’s very sad that he now has Alzheimers.

Jam Nights continue at The Three Wishes in North Harrow. From September, it will be up to twice-a-month, on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays of every month, following its recent reduction down to once-a-month. For a short while, we also had a second Jam Night, at The Broadwalk in North Harrow – also on a once-a-month arrangement. Unfortunately, that was short-lived, and is no longer on-going at The Broadwalk.

On the sports front, my knees are holding up well, enabling me to play regular Sunday cricket this season.  On the whole, I’m bowling well and haven’t had any niggling injuries so far.  I’m also playing  5-a-side football regularly too. With trips to the Gym, I’m managing to keeping myself reasonably fit.

I had a week’s holiday in the Isle Of Wight in July, with Rosie. It rained on the Tuesday but the rest of the week’s weather was pretty good. We visited loads of our old haunts, including The Crab and Harry’s Bar in Shanklin.  We stayed a couple of nights in Longhope in Gloucestershire in June and visited loads of places, such as Ross-On-Wye, Abergavenny, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouth, Chepstow, among others. It was a really nice break !

Oh well, that’s it for now.  Cheers,  BFN,   Rob.
